Zarif held a meeting with Kuwait’s Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid Al Sabah on Thursday in the fourth leg of a regional tour that took him earlier to Qatar, Iraq and Oman.

In the meeting, Zarif stressed the need for Iran and Kuwait to make efforts to initiate and strengthen dialogue in order to resolve the regional problems and enhance multilateral cooperation among the regional states.

He also emphasized the necessity of promotion of ties between Iran and Kuwait and employment of the capacities of the two countries, particularly in the economic and trade sectors.

Zarif also expounded on Iran’s views about the regional developments as well as the ongoing negotiations with the JCPOA parties in Vienna, saying his tour of the region concurrent with the nuclear talks in Austria reveals the special attention that Iran pays to the relations with the neighbors and the regional countries.

For his part, Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid Al Sabah welcomed Foreign Minister Zarif’s trip to Kuwait, highlighted the significance of relations between the two countries, and pointed to the ample opportunities for the expansion of cooperation.

The Kuwaiti prime minister also hailed the continuation of negotiations on the 2015 Iran nuclear deal in Vienna, expressing hope that the talks would yield positive results.

The two officials also discussed other subjects at the meeting, including the environmental issues, the consular affairs, the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, and settlement of problems that Iranian launches may face in the Kuwaiti ports.
